The favoured transportation option in this part of the Greater Oshawa metropolitan area is usually a car. It is straightforward to find a place to park. However, Whitby is not an especially convenient part of the Greater Oshawa metropolitan area for moving around by public transit. Nonetheless, there is the Whitby Station with access to the Lakeshore East Line. Property owners are served by about 20 bus lines, and the nearest bus stop is typically a short walk away. It is challenging for pedestrians to move around in Whitby because very few daily needs can be met without the use of a vehicle.


Some, but not all, property owners in this town will live within walking distance of one of around 40 grocery stores. A small selection of restaurants and cafes is available as well. Concerning education, parents and their children will welcome the proximity to primary schools, which are within walking distance from the majority of properties for sale in Whitby. However, it can be difficult to reach high schools on foot. Residents have the option of public and private schools at both the elementary and high school level.


Whitby is fairly good for those who enjoy a quiet atmosphere, as the streets are usually calm - however some areas can be quite noisy, especially around one of the railway lines or Highway 401.
