Old East Village (OEV) is a historic neighbourhood in London, just east of Downtown; designated as an Ontario Heritage Conservation District in 2006 to recognize and protect its history and sense of place. With a mix of housing styles, mainly late 19th and early 20th century single detached homes, along with newer apartment buildings. There is a strong ‘front-porch’ culture throughout the Old East Village. The Western Fair Farmers and Artisans Market, open on Saturdays and Sundays, is a social feature of the neighbourhood. There are many great opportunities for recreation in Old East Village. Boyle Park has a playground, basketball court, and tennis courts, as well as a Community Centre with meeting rooms, a gymnasium, and kitchen facilities. The Western Fair District has an arena with four ice surfaces, live horse racing, a casino, and large event grounds that hosts the annual Western Fair. Queens Park is connected to the Western Fair and fronts onto Dundas Street. Carson Library Branch is also located in the heart of Old East Village. St. Mary’s Choir Catholic School is located in the neighbourhood, and students also attend East Carling Public School, Lord Roberts French Immersion, Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, and Central, Catholic Central, and H.B.
