Royal LePage® Shelter Foundation™ applauds appointment of Paulette Senior to the Canadian Senate

TORONTO, February 5, 2024 – Royal LePage is proud to congratulate Paulette Senior, outgoing president and CEO of the Canadian Women’s Foundation and board member of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, on her recent appointment to the Senate of Canada. Prior to her tenure with the Canadian Women’s Foundation, Senior previously served as the head of the YWCA Canada, championing the empowerment, leadership and rights of women and girls. Last month, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the Governor General, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, appointed Senior to the Senate for Ontario.

Ms. Senior is a widely-respected philanthropist and advocate for the rights of women and children in Canada, with a dedication to breaking down systemic barriers. She has extensive experience in leading and managing shelters, employment programs and housing initiatives. Senior has been instrumental in driving change with projects focused on achieving gender justice, empowering girls, supporting women and children escaping intimate partner violence and lifting women out of poverty.

“Paulette’s invaluable contributions to the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation’s strategic direction and fundraising success have created impactful and long-lasting benefits to the women’s shelters and domestic violence prevention programs we proudly fund,” said Phil Soper, president and CEO of Royal LePage and officer of the board of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation. “This extremely well-deserved appointment is in no way surprising. Paulette is a highly-regarded leader and change-maker. Her passion for lifting up those around her to build a more equitable Canada is inspiring.”

Lisa Gibbs, executive director and president of the board of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, commends Senior on her new appointment and recognizes her steadfast commitment to gender equality. “The future for women, girls and diverse communities in Canada is brighter, safer and more just thanks to her contributions. I am confident her endeavours with the Senate will lead to stronger advocacy and impactful changes for some of the most at-risk members of our society. It has been my honour to join her in this commendable work.”

The Senate unites a diverse group of accomplished Canadians who defend regional interests and create space for voices of historically underrepresented groups, like women and racialized communities. Senators work to revise legislation, investigate national issues and represent minority interests.

About the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation
Since its founding more than 25 years ago, the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation has proudly grown to become the largest public foundation in Canada dedicated exclusively to funding women’s shelters and domestic violence prevention. Royal LePage, with a network of approximately 20,000 real estate professionals in over 670 locations nationwide, is the only Canadian real estate company with its own charitable foundation.

The Shelter Foundation has raised $44 million to-date and currently supports 200 local women’s shelters and national partners. Our agents donate a portion of their commissions, and Royal LePage offices across Canada host local fundraising events. Our brokers, agents and staff also volunteer and provide in-kind goods to benefit the women and children residing in their local shelters. Every dollar raised goes directly to helping the more than 50,000 women and children who are served each year by the shelters and support programs we fund.
