Located within Ontario, Canada, the town of Whitby is located in the Greater Oshawa metropolitan area.


The predominant housing types in Whitby are single detached homes and townhouses. The homes in this town are very modern, since about one third of its dwellings were built after the year 2000, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s. This part of the Greater Oshawa metropolitan area offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Around 85% of the population of this town own their home and 15% are renters.


Cars are a great transportation option in this town. It is very convenient to park. In contrast, this town is not very transit friendly. Nonetheless, there is the Whitby Station on the Lakeshore East Line. There are about 20 bus lines passing through the town, and bus stops are not very far from most houses. Whitby is not very well-suited for those who travel by foot as running daily errands is impractical.


Primary schools are convenient to walk to from any location in this town. On the other hand, families may consider it difficult for their children to access high schools on foot. Besides public schools, there are private primary and secondary schools. With respect to eating, getting to one of about 40 supermarkets on foot is possible for some, but not all, house buyers in Whitby. Residents benefit from over 300 restaurants and cafes as well.


The noise levels in Whitby are low, as the streets are usually tranquil - although that is not the case near Highway 401 or one of the railway lines.
