It is at times challenging for pedestrians to navigate Ajax since few daily needs can be carried out on foot. Bicycling is also difficult in Ajax as the cycling network is fairly poor, and riding is rendered arduous by the often sloping area.

It is easy to get to the nearest supermarket on foot from anywhere in Ajax. Harwood Avenue is among the best streets for groceries.
